February is such an exciting month! There’s Valentine’s Day – a great opportunity to show those you love how much they mean to you. Also in February is Black History Month and President’s Day as a federal holiday, both opportunities to remember and honor our history. In light of the significance of the month, it seemed appropriate when I began looking at ways to further connect our members in a meaningful way, that connections be the focus for this month. After all, we all want to stay connected to those we care about and we are all connected to our history.
I started thinking about our members first. Our members are busy women and it can be difficult staying connected as a result. Some of us operate small businesses, myself included. We have families and friends, social commitments, civic duties, volunteer responsibilities, and much more. With such hectic schedules and so many varied demands for our time and attention, who has time for one more event on the calendar? Therefore, I wanted something short and sweet, that wouldn’t require a huge commitment on the behalf of members but would be refreshing and offer a break in a hectic day (because who remembers to take a break, really?). Something to re-energize and excite us in our day.
So, in light of that, on February 11, 2011 from 3 p.m. – 4 p.m., IWN will be holding its first-ever Coffee Connections. This event, tailored around busy, demanding schedules, offers an opportunity to either connect with someone new or connect with old friends. This hour-long event offers an opportunity to grab coffee (and even a pastry snack) and visit with others outside of the office. The event will be held at the Starbucks on 5904 N. Macarthur Blvd. Described by Starbucks staff as one of the largest Starbucks facilities in Irving, it has seating available for close to 100 people and free wi-fi.
This event is open to anyone, male or female, member or non-member, and guests are encouraged and invited. If you plan to attend, invite a colleague you haven’t seen in a while, an old friend, or that new person you’ve been meaning to get together with but simply haven’t had an opportunity to. The event will feature a brief ice-breaker event. Attendees are welcome to come when they’re able and leave whenever they wish. Be sure to bring paper, pen, and business cards! A door prize will be given away and the person with the most guests will receive a special gift of appreciation.
We look forward to seeing you there!
