The first monthly luncheon of 2011 for Irving Women’s Network was jam-packed with information! Denise DeHart, our new president, gave her first speech and ran the meeting flawlessly. During the meeting, members had an opportunity to sign up for committees they would be interested in participating in. This meeting also allowed for a change of method for providing announcements. Now, members can provide an announcement to Denise to share at the meetings. This will streamline the meeting and save time, leaving more of an opportunity for members to mingle and connect at the luncheon.
Our display table sponsor this month was Glory House Catering, Receptions and Bistro. Charity Van Vleet with Eagle Eye Web Services spoke on behalf of Glory House during the meeting, presenting a two minute speech about the services. The display table included delicious samples of Glory Houses’ cookies and Glory House provided coupons to all the member for use in the Bistro. Glory House Bistro is located on 109 S. Main Street in Irving in the downtown Heritage District. Lindsay McInnis, intern with Parker College Chiropractic, Margie Stipes, community volunteer, and Deborah Gallaway with Fabulously Frugale Boutique each gave wonderful testimonials about Glory House’s great services. Glory House Catering, Receptions and Bistro provides catering services, an on-site reception facility, and a bistro open for lunch Monday – Friday from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
This month’s devotional was by Sherry Blalock of Bodyworks by Blalock. The theme was touch and she gave a very moving prayer. Thanks Sherry!
The focus of the meeting this month was how referrals can change your life. Two IWN members, Sharon Johnston of Ads and Images spoke on behalf of Pam Hale and Sloan Johnston of Better Me Than You, each shared first person accounts about how referrals have benefited their business and personal lives. Jodi Reynolds, IWN Director of Programs, then facilitated a brief exercise with members to promote and encourage referrals. Each member wrote on the back of their business card a service or need they were interested in having fulfilled then passed the card to their left. The person on the left was responsible for connecting that person to a resource or person that could help.
At the end there was a brief survey, through a show of hands, as to how many members had done business with other members in the past year with IWN. Pam Coller, IWN member and owner of PC 1040, won a special gift, a beautiful angel, for having done business with the most members in 2010.
Jodi Reynolds had this to say after the event:
“Referrals have made a huge difference in my business and I wanted to remind IWN members to rely on referrals for their own businesses. Hopefully, after seeing how many members do business with other members, it will encourage more business owners to refer and seek referrals through IWN’s membership.”
